What is AMIT?

What is AMIT?

Advanced Muscle Integration Technique (A.M.I.T.®) treats the inhibition that takes place in nerve centers called proprioceptors. These centers called “intelligent terminals” monitor tension, stretch, motion, and pressure. When the system is traumatized or inflamed, these centers “trip”, much like a circuit breaker in an electrical circuit. Once this occurs, the muscle stays inhibited when it is placed under load. Loss of range of motion, pain, and weakness are experienced.

When this happens, other muscles or tissues attempt to take on more of the load as the body adapts and compensates.

After the NPI muscle is defined by the doctor, stimulation of eight separate reflex centers and adjustment of three spinal segments, re-activates proper neurological function for that muscle. In the case of AMI, manipulation of the joint can re-establish the normal feedback receptors and the muscle associated with that joint to reactivate in pain-free motion. Once reactivated, the muscles are now prepared to respond to strengthening exercises. Using AMIT, the body is aided in the support it needs to heal and perform optimally.

A.M.I.T.® is a cutting-edge diagnostic therapeutic procedure for defining musculature weakness and imbalances in the body. It allows the body to function optimally for peak performance and healing.

A.M.I.T.® system utilizes traditional Chiropractic care of the spine to ensure proper central nervous system function in addition to restoring proper muscular function. The spine and central nervous system are the foundation for everything we do and represent one discipline for healing. The vertebra may become fixated or locked so that normal motion is restricted. This can lead to neurological consequences that adversely affect tissue function in the body. This eventually leads to pain, susceptibility to injury or dis-ease in some tissue. Chiropractic spinal manipulation of the fixated vertebra can re-establish the neurological feedback/control system leading to more balanced function. This is where the similarities end.

A.M.I.T.® utilizes seventeen different healing disciplines that produce accelerated results. When the body is injured, it tries to heal itself. Acute Injuries occur when a muscle is overloaded beyond its capacity. When this happens, either the muscle tears, or the nervous system inhibits the muscle (like a circuit breaker in an electrical circuit) to prevent severe injury. If this inhibited muscle is loaded again, it will not be able to contract appropriately and the body will create pain to avoid more damage. Once a muscle is inhibited, it will no longer fire when loaded. We call these new movement patterns“Adaptations”. The body needs all the essential components that are required for healing, or proper healing will not take place. If all the essential components for healing are not available within six weeks of injury, the central nervous system is forced to adapt into other tissues. These adaptations will mask the original problem and eventually cause injury elsewhere. The beauty ofA.M.I.T.® is that it quickly identifies the inhibited muscle, and prevents the adaptive strategy to occur. Chronic problems arise because adapted tissue eventually becomes over-stressed and becomes the next site of injury. This new site of injury leads to further adaptive movement patterns and the downward spiral of pain and muscle atrophy continues.

The A.M.I.T.® system gives him the ability to isolate and test all 600 plus muscles. By evaluating and testing individual muscles through specific ranges of motion, Dr. Williams and his team can determine if the symptom site is the primary lesion or merely the adaptation to an older previous injury. An adapted tissue will often show up as a condition a person wakes up with one morning not having any history of trauma. Occasionally, muscle dysfunction can be reflective of deeper problems such as nutritional deficiencies or gland/organ stress and the early stages of disease because muscles are the display units of the body. This is where differential diagnostic capabilities are critical. We focus on integrating the best of all health care systems.

Advanced Muscle Activation Technique addresses the imbalances in the body, healing the body on a much more complete level, leading to more complete recovery and success in cases where chiropractic alone may have been only partially successful! Elite-level athletes from the NBA, NFL, PGA, and manyU.S. Olympic athletes as well as many college, high school, and recreational athletes are beginning to use the A.M.I.T.® system to maximize their performance. But, you don’t have to be an athlete to benefit from it. Most patients are active people who want to help their bodies work right, feel great and live life to the fullest.
